Need a mammogram? Here are free options for the uninsured

If you putting off a mammogram because you can’t afford it, you may qualify for free screening.

Here’s where you may find help:

  • The Summit County Public Health agency administers a state-funded program called the Pink Ribbon Breast & Cervical Cancer Project.  It’s for women 40 and older without health insurance and with an income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.  Pap smears, breast exams and mammograms (for ages 50 and older) are free.  For enrollment and eligibility information, please call (330) 926-5750 or email jhunter@schd.org
  • Akron General Medical Center offers a program called Muffins for Mammograms for women living in Summit County who are uninsured.  Call 330-344-BRST (2778) to see if you qualify.
  • At Summa Health System, a program called Summa Screens provides free screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, and breast ultrasounds to low-income women who are uninsured or underinsured.  Call (330) 375-7300 for information.
